Built For The Long Weekend
Another stretch of hot weather here in Ontario, so I hope you are enjoying the out doors!
Given it is so hot, I try very hard not to cook inside so focus my culinary efforts around my BBQ and wood oven. With the August long weekend approaching (August already!!!), I find myself menu planning for a few great meals with friends. I’m thinking of a mixed grill night, a surf and turf platter and a pizza feast will make for some fantastic eating.
Having a different friends over for dinner each night, I want to have a nice selection of wines that fit the menu and the preferences of my guests. My next mixed case is therefor built for this long weekend, with a selection of food friendly wines perfect for entertaining!
Descriptions are in the details below, but I'll offer a bit of advice for whatever wines you are enjoying right now. Given how warm it is outside, throw your reds in the fridge for 20 minutes before you drink them. That slight cooling of the wine will make it more enjoyable in warm weather and bring it closer to what would traditionally be considered 'cellar temperature'. I would typically recommend doing the opposite for your whites; pull them out of the fridge about 20 minutes before you drink them as this will allow the flavours to really shine and be fully appreciated. Another fun comparison, when you have a few people sharing is to try both approaches and compare the same wine at slightly different temperatures. This will allow you to decide for yourself what you like best!
